Rosie Mortimer MRSS was raised in London, where she studied at Chelsea College of Art and the Slade School of Fine Art, graduating in 1990. In 1996 she completed her MFA at the Edinburgh College of Art. She has been a practising artist for over 25 years.

Her early work was largely concerned with the relationship of objects to their surroundings/architecture, and was often installation-based. She has created work on all scales, from the almost monumental to the hand-held. Her more recent work explores the physical qualities of materials, both traditional and everyday. She uses a wide variety of processes, giving import to objects by transforming them with subtle interferences.

She currently teaches at Northbrook College, Worthing.
